Aside from getting connected to YouTube regardless of your connectivity status, YouTube Go lets you have more control over your data usage if you are trying to save up on your monthly plan.

The next time you watch a video from Russia's RT on YouTube, you might encounter a disclaimer of sorts: YouTube is beginning to add special funding notices to videos and live streams from news publishers that are government- or publicly funded.

Flu deaths in Alberta catching up to last season's total

Go cuts out commenting, channel subscriptions, and long ads to save on mobile data and works well on cheaper phones with limited internet access. The YouTube Go Android app is rolling out to more than 130 countries, starting today, after first launching in India previous year. Further reports suggest that the new feature will bridge the gap between the standard YouTube app and the YouTube Go app as High Quality video download is available for the standard YouTube app. Back in December, Google announced that the app for Roku and Apple TV would be delayed until the first quarter of 2018 after the company failed to meet a deadline that was set back in early October.

The change will affect sources like the U.S.'s Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), but will also increase the visibility around foreign state news organizations, like Russia's RT. The app also makes it possible to preview videos before downloading them, and choose the download quality of each video. A pull-down of the home screen will refresh the page with new personalized content along with notifications of new videos. You will also be notified when new videos are uploaded from the channels you have subscribed to. As The WSJ also pointed out, US intelligence officials dubbed RT "the Kremlin's principal global propaganda outlet". This way, you can get a better idea of what's in the video to decide if you want to consume data watching it. The feature basically allows you to show videos to friends who are nearby using Bluetooth and BLE.
