The murder spree happened just before 3.30pm Saturday when police received a 9-1-1 call to a shooting in Paintsville, reported.

Authorities did not immediately identify the victims but a source told Heavy that the slain were Nickell's mother, father, girlfriend, and her mother.

A male suspect is among five people found dead following separate shooting attacks at a residence and apartment complex overnight, Kentucky authorities said.

Police say no other people were injured or transported to the hospital in addition to the two people who have already been killed.

Price said the Kentucky State Police is assisting in the investigation. He left the scene, and a countywide search started. The suspect was not at the scene, but deputies later received a tip about his vehicle.

A 911 call about the vehicle led deputies to a second home in Paintsville where they found two other people dead in an apartment.

Johnson County Sheriff Dwayne Price posted a statement on Facebook detailing the crime.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office and KSP are working the case.

"There are no words to describe the heartbreak in seeing four lives taken due to the actions of one man", Sheriff Price added.

Nickell was also in the apartment and had a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the newspaper reports. I have worked in law enforcement for 34 years.

Sheriff Price concluded by saying, "In respect, for the victims, we are not releasing any names pending notification of families".
