Figure skating: US sensation Tennell cool as ice

The Americans sit in third place as we enter the final day of the figure skating team competition, set for Sunday night and featuring the free skating events. Her score left the third place overall, trailing leader Canada by six points and second place Olympic Athletes From Russia by two through four of five team events.

Tennell, 20, posted a season-best score of 68.94 points in her 2-minute, 50-second routine, good for fifth place out of 10 skaters in Sunday's women's team short program.

Tennell, who was chosen Saturday over U.S. teammates Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen to compete in Sunday's event, earned her spot on the U.S. team by winning the U.S. Figure Skating Championship women's title January 5 in San Jose, California.

The butterflies come before she takes the ice for figure skating competitions.

"My biggest rival is myself - because every time I go out there, I want to be better than I was before, so that's what I really strive for", she told reporters after a practice session at the ice arena on Saturday.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said President Donald Trump "says he will sign" the legislation. He also called the bill a "big victory" for the military.

"I feel more productive when I get up early". Tennell skated in a deep field with several Olympic and world medallists, but didn't flinch in her first skate on Olympic ice. The United States survived the cut, but Team USA has a little bit of work to do if it hopes to earn a gold medal in team figure skating.

For many sports fans who tune into figure skating only once every four-year Olympic cycle, Sunday's women's short program offered the first look at Tennell, a 20-year-old from Winfield, Ill., who had no global profile to speak of just six months ago.

US is in third with 36 points, while Italy is just outside of medal position with 35.
