With the teaser image, Essential also hinted at what could be a color-shifting finish for the new "Ocean Depths", as 9 to 5 Google notes.

The limited-edition smartphones are available for $599 United States dollars exclusively on, which does not ship to Canada. Unfortunately, these will cost $599 apiece - a full $100 over the price of a Moon Black or Pure White unit, and significantly more than the going rate.

Each color format is limited edition, and go on sale at predetermined times this week and next.

In a blog post, Essential explained the new Essential Phone models feature a custom ceramic colour, which the company described as a "feat".

Stellar Gray, on the other hand, has a matte black back which is said to offer a smooth touch and comfortable grip.

Essential just announced that it's launching three new color versions of its very first smartphone - the Essential Phone. As a result, Essential said it's only making a "small batch" of these new colours, because "colored ceramic is extremely hard to produce consistently". The first to go on sale will be Ocean Depths on Thursday, 12PM PST. And finally, the Copper Black model (with glossy back and a copper frame) will be released on February 22. It's certainly the reason we're calling them "limited".

Interestingly, you'll have to pay extra for the privilege of owning any of the three new color variants. Starting today, at 12pm PST, Essential will be offering the Essential Phone Ocean Depths finish.
