Manchester United are confident David De Gea will reject renewed interest from Real Madrid and extend his contract at Old Trafford, sources have told ESPN FC.

David De Gea specialises in making unbelievable saves but he must have been pretty proud with his heroics last night. However, on the deadline day, the deal broke through as a result of paperwork and the infamous "Fax Machine" incident.

Indeed in July, manager Jose Mourinho suggested last summer United were open to negotiating his sale but Zinedine Zidane made a decision to stick with Navas after the Costa Rica worldwide helped Real to win both the La Liga and the Champions League title. "I see him very happy and focused and working better than ever so for me 100 per cent he stays with us".

"Outright the best goalkeeper in the world".

Winter Olympics: Andre Myhrer becomes oldest man to win slalom medal
Myhrer beat Switzerland's Ramon Zenhaeusern by 0.34 seconds, while Austria's Michael Matt took bronze. Yuri Danilochkin of Belarus placed 33rd, 13.16 seconds behind the victor .

But speculation linking Real with a new keeper has re-emerged since Los Blancos failed to complete the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Club Bilbao during the January transfer window.

According to the Times "negotiations have progressed well" since they began at the end of 2017 and the paper says the new contract is likely to net the 27-year-old in excess of £220,000-a-week. He produced a match-winning display yet again in Manchester United's goalless draw against Sevilla n the Champions League.

It's believed that de Gea is happy to remain at Old Trafford, having laid down roots in the area, and is ready to sign a new deal before the end of the season, so that any transfer speculation is resolved before he jets off to Russian Federation for the World Cup.

But Chelsea may also indirectly feel the pain of De Gea securing a new deal with Manchester United, with Blues shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois reportedly the reigning European Champions' second port of call.
