Suresh Prabhu to take charge of Civil Aviation Ministry along with his current portfolio

Suresh Prabhu Appointed as Civil Aviation Minister, in Addition to Existing Charge of Commerce & Industry

Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu today said new industrial policy will be announced in the next few weeks, which will focus on new industries that will drive future growth of the country.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed today that Prabhu has been given the additional charge of the aviation portfolio.

".In the ministry of commerce and industry, we have already identified few sectors which we think will be the new thrust sectors of India".

The main focus of the government in aviation now is to complete the divestment process of Air India and its subsidiaries before the next general election due in 2019. Following a number of high-profile accidents on the Indian Railways, Prabhu's ministry took over by Piyush Goyal during the Cabinet reshuffle. "A big thanks to the entire team at the civil aviation ministry". On the other hand, the Centre government has refused to grant its demand for a Special Category Status, giving Constitutional hurdles, however promising financial support to the state.

Prabhu, 64, was inducted into Narendra Modi's Ministry in 2015, after he switched over from Shiv Sena to the BJP.
