Kawhi Leonard could be available as early as Thursday against Pelicans

The forward is reportedly in line for a return in Thursday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans but, in the meantime, San Antonio will have to soldier on after losing for the eighth time in 10 games in a 104-94 defeat by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday.

If he is able to return next week, it will mark a big step in a saga that has seen Leonard miss a surprising amount of time with a lingering quad injury surrounded by reports that he has had disagreements with team doctors over how to handle the injury and speculation that there was discord with the team.

Leonard, the 2014 Finals MVP and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, was first revealed to be injured in training camp.

San Antonio announced on January 17 that Leonard was out "indefinitely", and coach Gregg Popovich said in February that he wouldn't be surprised if Leonard missed the whole season.

If Kawhi does return on Thursday, it'll give him 14 games to try and save the team's season and get into the playoffs. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said that he "would be surprised" if Leonard would return ahead of April's playoffs.

Another attack was carried out in the province's capital of Farah, six police officers were killed in the assault. The motive behind the attack remained unknown and the Taliban has yet to make comments on the report.

But for now, the countdown is on and the Spurs need to continue to play with urgency so that Kawhi return is for naught and they miss the playoff despite getting their franchise player back.

"Soon. I don't have a set date right now".

"The progression that I'm making has been great", Leonard told reporters. It's hard to explain, but I'm definitely better. I just have to keep doing what I'm doing. Although San Antonio has been pretty terrible of late, they'll certainly be a team to keep a close eye on now with Kawhi Leonard likely set to return on Thursday.

The All-Star has admitted it has "been tough" to watch the Spurs struggle without him in the lineup but he said it was important for him not to come back "unhealthy".
