Fired-up Kevin Harvick wins third straight NASCAR race

Harvick pulls away from Kyle Busch for third straight win

Stewart-Haas Racing might be celebrating its 10th anniversary this season, but the organization still experienced a first Sunday at ISM Raceway.

Kevin Harvick didn't dominate in the desert, but he still won. "Any time you can reach out and grab motivation, for me, that's just a piece of the puzzle".

Kevin Harvick is at his best when's he mad, so much so that former crew chief Gil Martin used to try to rile him up during races.

Additionally, as part of the penalty, crew chief Rodney Childers was fined $50,000.

Harvick took a figurative kick in the gut Wednesday when NASCAR penalized his team for rules infractions after last week's win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"In Atlanta, we kind of chalked it up to Kevin being probably the best driver at Atlanta and we just thought it was Atlanta and he is typically fast there", said Logano, the 2016 Phoenix fall victor. You can get live scoring and updates at NASCAR's Race Center. "Parking that thing in victory lane is the most powerful thing, most powerful message you can send, and says the most about our organization and our team". "I can't explain it but today's win is just so rewarding", said Harvick. The 42-year-old Harvick is also the first driver age 40 or older to win three consecutive races since Harry Gant won four straight in 1991 at age 51.

"I made it very clear to pat my window and thank it for doing its job", he said. Kyle Busch looked like the strongest vehicle for much of the race, leading 124 laps and winning stage one, but had to settle for second place in the end. Busch's team dropped the jack and had trouble with the right rear tire on the stop with 53 laps left, allowing Harvick - who pitted three laps earlier - to slip ahead.

Busch said he entered the race knowing Harvick was the guy to beat. We didn't stomp 'em but we won and that's really all that matters.

His older brother Kurt Busch won Stage 2 when a late caution shook up the running order after pit stops, and the elder Busch - who had a good auto all day but never one that could stay with the leaders over a long stretch - came out on top. Ultimately, Busch finished second after a slow pit stop, and Hamlin came home fourth.

"I had a pretty good turn those last two runs, and before that I wasn't turning good enough and (didn't have) too good of forward bite". I tried my best to hold him off as long as I could, but I felt like him and Kyle had just a little bit on us.

Busch won the first 75-lap stage, and brother Kurt Busch stayed on the track during a caution and won the second segment in a one-lap shootout.

From lap 232 through lap 244, Hamlin, Harvick and Busch staged a spirited and crowd pleasing fight for first. But, after a big penalty at Vegas took him out of the championship lead, Harvick was ready to take his frustrations out on the field. "And all you haters - I see you".
