Police say the woman is in her 40s, but they haven't released any other information. That explosion occurred about 12 miles (19 kilometers) north of Monday's blast.
Austin Police Chief Brian Manley believes that because of the evidence, there is a strong possibility the two are linked. Police in Texas were investigating the incident as an isolated homicide.
A 17-year-old boy was killed and a woman injured in a package bomb explosion on Monday at a home in Austin in an incident similar to another fatal blast in the Texas state capital earlier this month, authorities said.
Police warned the public about handling packages they are not expecting.
"There are similarities that we can not rule out that these two incidents are, in fact, related", Manley said.
Kawhi Leonard could be available as early as Thursday against Pelicans
Leonard, the 2014 Finals MVP and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, was first revealed to be injured in training camp. If Kawhi does return on Thursday, it'll give him 14 games to try and save the team's season and get into the playoffs.
She said that for now, Austin police will remain in charge of the investigation with federal agents assisting.
However, a motive in the two incidents remains unclear at this time.
Manley said investigators believe the attacks are related, as in both cases, the packages were left overnight on the victims' doorsteps and were not mailed or sent by a delivery service. Austin residents are instructed to call 911 if they see a suspicious package outside their home. "We do know that both of the homes that were the recipients of these packages belong to African-Americans, so we can not rule out that hate crime is at the core of this. And let us come out and take a look at those packages and ensure that they are safe", Manley said.
Original report: A teenager was killed and a woman was injured early Monday in East Austin after a second package exploded in the city in the past two weeks, authorities said.
