According to a report, the Richard Sherman deal with the San Francisco 49ers might be a fancy form of smoke and mirrors. Or maybe, the agent-less Sherman would have visited the Patriots first.

MMQB's Peter King published a piece on Monday morning that provided some answers. King's piece, involving exclusive angles from both sides, revealed some juicy tidbits.

In just a couple of days, the Seattle Seahawks and 31 other teams will embark on what should be a rather exciting journey.

"We had something no other team could offer", Lynch said.

Sherman played an integral role in the fierce NFC West rivalry between Seattle and San Francisco earlier this decade.

When that was relayed to Sherman, he paused for a second.

Seattle released Sherman to save itself $11 million in valuable cap space, which Sherman seemed to understand. "The way he played down the stretch was inspiring, it was incredible", Sherman said. Cameron Wake, Terrell Suggs, Michael Crabtree, Demaryius Thomas, and more have done it. Players on this level who have suffered such an injury should have a one-year contract impacted, but not a multi-year deal. "I'm sure there will be some tweaks and adjustments that they put in but I think with Malcolm [Smith] and Cassius [Marsh] being there, there will be some familiar faces". "I didn't abandon anybody". So they need to throw an attaboy or two in the direction of Sherman the agent for the work he did on behalf of Sherman the player. They refused and will now have to look at Sherman on the opposite sideline at least twice in 2018.

In Sherman, San Francisco bring in a cornerback who has the most interceptions (32) and passes defended (99) since entering the league in 2011.

Harvey Schwartz to depart Goldman Sachs
Before that, he served as Goldman's chief financial officer and quarterbacked the firm's transition to tougher regulation. Mostly he has doubled down on the trading and risk-taking that otherwise fell out of favor across much of Wall Street.

Sherman, who turns 30 on March 30, gave an optimistic prognosis on his comeback from last November's right Achilles tear. "I have skin in the game", Sherman said. It gives me the ability to control my destiny. I have skin in the game.

"Once I make a Pro Bowl, $8 million the next year is guaranteed for me". I couldn't feel secure in my contract. Sherman will get paid $125,000 per game active, meaning he could earn up to $2 million if he stays healthy.

Sherman didn't dispute that aspect of the 49ers' appeal.

"We're on the 1-yard line here!"

It did not take long for Richard Sherman to find a new home. "We can do this!" Richard said, 'What if I'm voted to the Pro Bowl and I can't go because we're in the Super Bowl?' We thought, He's right. And I am absolutely ecstatic (read my article on why the 49ers should sign him here). 'Could be, he was told'.

Sherman's contract does pay him more this year than a prove-it deal would.

In the end, Sherman made it clear he is betting on himself in a big way.
