United States Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, will arrive the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, today, Monday, as part of his ongoing tour of Africa.

"Due to demands in the secretary's schedule, he is returning to the U.S. one day early, after concluding official meetings in Chad and Nigeria", Undersecretary of State Steve Goldstein told the press.

The top USA diplomat flew into the Chadian capital N'Djamena on the last day of a truncated tour of Africa with stop-offs in Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Nigeria - all frontline partners against Islamic State and al Qaeda off-shoots.

Tillerson was billed to depart Nairobi, the capital of Kenya on Monday to Abuja for his first official visit in Nigeria, where he is expected to hold talks with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.

Tillerson's week-long, five-country visit to Africa came amid other urgent foreign policy developments, including Thursday's announcement that U.S. President Donald Trump will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

WhenTillerson meets Buhari, both men are expected to discuss counter terrorism efforts and humanitarian issues in Nigeria's Northeast and the Lake Chad basin.

He also planned to meet US Embassy staff, and attend a working lunch with Monica Juma, the nation's minister for foreign affairs.
