Benton County is ranked as the healthiest county in the state in a new study. Locally, Tioga County ranked 40, Steuben at 45, Schuyler at 46, and Chemung at 49. "Look at the median income in the upper (ranked) counties and the lower (ranked) counties and see how that translates to health".
Eight out of nine counties in Southwest Virginia along with the city of Bristol placed near the bottom in health outcomes and health factors, according to the report. The order changes when it comes to health factors: Collin, No. 1, Rockwall, No. 2 and Denton, No. 6.
Nicollet County ranked highly among counties in Minnesota, among the healthiest of states.
Spegman also said the numbers are mostly there to get people thinking about their community's health.
These rankings are a snapshot of the health of counties across the country and they emphasize that health is not a singular effort but a combined work in progress across all community partners. Beaufort County's rate is 19 percent.
For almost a decade, the County Health Rankings, released today, March 14th, have shown that where we live makes a difference in how well and how long we live. The teen birth rate for whites is 23.
The rankings, which can be viewed here, use more than 30 measurable factors to rank the overall health of communities nationwide. Cumberland County is the healthiest, while Washington County was found to be the least healthy.

In the nine years of the rankings, Livingston County has been as high as number one and never lower than 12th among New York's 62 counties.
Other southeastern Wisconsin counties lagged in the rankings. Access to good doctors isn't the only important health indicator.
For example, 22 percent of North Carolina children live in poverty, compared with the national rate of 20 percent.
Rivas said the intentions of the rankings are to show what specific areas people can target to improve health at a local level. The goal of the rankings project is to give communities a window into their own health, and provide opportunities for their improvement.
Advancements in medicine have helped improve the overall health of Texans over the past several decades, but they haven't benefited everyone.
