Cardinals, Tyrann Mathieu working on restructured contract

Even before Mathieu was released by Arizona Wednesday, there were rumblings that Mathieu could find his way to New England. He played a full 16-game regular season for the first time in his career a year ago, finishing with 78 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 sack.

Whatever the cost, the Dallas Cowboys would be wise to pursue safety Tyrann Mathieu in the coming days. The 25-year-old was clearly prepared to roll the dice on earning a more lucrative contract on the open market. The only realistic way he was going to stay with the team next season was if he was willing to take a significant pay cut.

Johnny Manziel can still resurrect his National Football League career, so says Tyrann Mathieu - but he's gotta do one fundamental thing to complete his comeback. Fox's Jay Glazer first reported the news and the team quickly confirmed it.

He had signed a five-year, $62.5 million deal with $40 million guaranteed in the summer of 2016.

The cat jumped onto an advertising hoarding before dropping down to the pitch in front of a sold-out stadium . Their side can wrap up the league title this weekend, while a cup semifinal against Schalke also awaits.

Mathieu is also a talented return man, and the Pats just lost out their top kick and punt returners from this past season (Dion Lewis, Danny Amendola).

Whether or not the Giants should sign Mathieu will likely come down to price. Safeties as versatile as the fierce 5-foot-9 Mathieu are hard to find. Mathieu had his best season in 2015 in which he appeared in 14 games, tallied 89 tackles, 17 pass deflections, five interceptions, one forced fumble, one defensive touchdown while making the Pro Bowl and getting named first-team All-Pro.

Mathieu has said the night he spent in jail for that arrest changed his life. In 2017, Mathieu finished with 74 tackles, seven pass deflections, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one sack.
