Veteran pro-freedom leader Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai was on Monday elected as the chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, a powerful constituent of Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference faction.

"Geelani sahib himself urged upon TeH Majlis-e-Shora to take decision in this regard", sources said adding "Sehrai was nominated as interim chairman until formal elections are conducted". The replacement is seen as a major development and it would also rest all speculations that who would lead separatist movement after aged Geelani.

It is said that Senior Hurriyat leader Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai will succeed SAS Geelani as the chairman of the party. Long-time Geelani aide Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has replaced him as Chairman of TeH, confirmed ANI.

Sehrai and Geelani, both strong votaries of implementation of the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir, have been close associates for nearly six decades, first in the Jamiat-e-Islami J&K and later in the TeH.
