The intent to develop such a laptop is being attributed to increasing the average revenue per user (ARPU) for Reliance Jio. Last year, Reliance Jio had clocked $4.70 (INR 300) ARPU, much higher than all its competitors in India. That would pave the way for the SIM card to be inserted and a smartphone cum laptop can be made available to the users. This has been an age-old problem for the telecom providers in India. After launching JioFi dongles and LYF 4G smartphones, Reliance focusing on the computer market can be a potential game changer. Well, laptops with built-in cellular connectivity options would actually be appealing to a lot many, because with the current laptops, we have to either plug-in a 3G/4G dongle or connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot to get Internet connectivity on the laptop.

"So if these productivity-centric devices are connected to cellular networks, it will boost the value proposition, driving growth for this segment: first, by providing ubiquitous connectivity on the go and, second, in terms of privacy and security as the cellular connectivity is highly secure compared to WiFi hotspots", Shah said. In the light of this news, Reliance seems adamant to embed Jio in each and every device that is capable of running the internet.
