A woman's body was found by rescuers in the USA during the search of a missing Indian family of four who are feared drowned in a swollen river in California, officials said. But after spending two weeks with the family Argyropoulos said she noticed kindness, love and respect for the children was largely absent.

"Our results make it clear that schools have a really hard task ahead of them when it comes to reducing the gaps between low and high achieving children", she said.

"It's a hard job and one that will take sustained investment over a long period, but it's really important because what happens at school can have lasting impacts over generations".

The family from Santa Clarita have not been heard from since late last week when they were in Klamath-Redwood National Park area in Northern California.

And authorities have said social services officials in OR contacted the West Linn Police Department about the family in 2013 while they were living in the area. CHP Garberville Commander Randy England said the family checked out of a Holiday Inn at 10 a.m.

The search along the south fork of the Eel River is north of where another search has been going on along the Mendocino County coast for members of a family of eight whose SUV plunged off a towering ocean bluff and into the surf line below.

Sandeep Thottapilly, 41, vice president of the Union Bank on Santa Clarita, and his wife Soumya Thottapilly, 38, were on a road trip along with their two kids - Siddhanth, 12 and Saachi, 9 - in a maroon Honda Pilot from Portland, Oregon to San Jose in Southern California, during which they went missing on April 5.

"It (the SUV) did not come to a complete stop (as it got to the end of the pullout)", England told reporters.

The California Highway Patrol has also said the crash is thought to have been intentional.

An inter-agency search and rescue team in California on Friday also recovered some personal items and numerous parts of a vehicle from a swollen river in which the missing Indian family was travelling last week.

The specific level was.10%, Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman said. Crews used inflatable boats, river boards, jet skis and kayaks.
