Aside from BioShock Collection in 2016, The widely popular series has been seemingly on hold since the release of Burial at Sea downloadable content in 2013 for Bioshock Infinite, however, it looks like 2k Games haven't given up on the IP as reportedly a new Bioshock game is in development. According the Kotaku's report, the studio and individual devs were hit hard when they lost out on bonuses, which were contingent on Mafia III getting either an 80 or 85 on Metacritic (it ended up with a score in the 60s).
Kotaku has reported that a new BioShock title is now under development, there was no additional information given on the title as it is said to be highly secretive.
According to Kotaku's Jason Schreier when interviewing developers at Hangar 13, the developers behind Mafia III, for a story an unnamed studio was working on a new installment in the BioShock franchise codenamed "Parkside".

The situation was said to be under control as authorities imposed prohibitory conditions and deployed additional police force. A large number of Ambedkar followers visited Mhow to pay their respects to independent India's first law minister.
Whilst the following is a stretch, signs are pointing at the secret studio being made up of Hanger 13 and BioShock-affiliated 2K Marin members. Now it seems a new game is in the works. "It was all very tight-lipped". Some went to other game companies; others moved to the top-secret studio next door to work on an unannounced new BioShock game.
Until E3, we'll just have to stick with our imaginations about what comes next.
"The issue is that Parkside's not ready for lots of people", one source said. The time was tumultuous and the tension surrounding "why wasn't I chosen for this project" only contributed more to that fact. "They're trying to be really smart about figuring out what the core thing is".
