These eggs could have been infected with Salmonella, a well-known bacteria which can trigger serious and even fatal infections in young children, elderly, and other people with different immunity issues.
The eggs were recalled by producer Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Indiana "through an abundance of caution", the FDA's statement said.
In a Saturday update, the FDA reports it linked the contamination to Rose Acre Farms' Hyde County, North Carolina-based farm.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a notice about the recall Friday, warning consumers that 22 illnesses have been reported in states along the east coast of the USA because of the eggs.
The FDA says anyone who purchased the eggs should discard them or return them to where they were purchased for a refund.

Salmonella infection is a common bacterial disease affecting the intestinal tract; the bacteria live in animal and human intestines, shed through feces.
Symptoms include fever, nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain. The CDC said that in some persons, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. So far, 22 illnesses have been reported. Quality Egg ended up paying $7 million in fines and its owners served jail term in federal prison.
