United States still 'locked and loaded' for new chemical attacks

US recklessness in Syria

UN Security Council rejects Russian bid to condemn US-led strikes on Syria

Readouts of the phone calls issued by the White House said the leaders discussed the success of the Friday night military operations in Syria and the need to deter Syrian President Bashar Assad's government from conducting further chemical attacks. He called on the United States to pressure Turkey to end its military expeditions in Syria.

The US Defence Department has said airstrikes on Syria had struck all of their targets and none of the coalition's planes or ship-launched missiles had been intercepted by President Bashar Al Assad's forces.

"We will not stand by passively while Assad, backed by Russian Federation and Iran, ignores global law", White said.

A number of non-governmental organizations, including the White Helmets, earlier said chemical weapons had been used in Douma, Eastern Ghouta, on April 7. While American special forces have fought alongside the Kurds in driving the ISIS terrorist militia out of Syria's northern provinces, Bowen said the Kurds have in recent months themselves been attacked by soldiers and militias backed by Turkey, another North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally.

On Saturday, a team of United Nations chemical experts arrived in Syria to investigate whether Assad's government was responsible for the attack a week ago.

"When our president draws a red line, our president enforces the red line", Haley stressed.

Salah hits 40 goals with header (insert Harry Kane joke here)
Tottenham fans took to Twitter to criticise Harry Kane for his performance, or lack thereof, against Manchester City on Saturday . The Premier League did later change the goal to Kane's, allowing the Spurs striker to move within four of the Reds winger.

A resolution put forth by Russian Federation here at the UN Security Council condemning the missile attack was rejected. The strikes didn't hit any of the Syrian Air Force units that drop chemical weapons routinely. Thus, this attack looks much more like it was meant only to degrade Syrian chemical weapons themselves.

All three allies fired 22 weapons at the Him Shinshar Chemical Weapons Storage Site just west of Homs, and the USA military launched seven missiles at the Him Shinshar Chemical Weapons Bunker, McKenzie said.

The three sites included the Barzah chemical-weapons research and development center near Damascus that was hit by 76 missiles and "destroyed".

Mattis described them as a "one-time shot" to send a strong message to Assad not to use chemical weapons again. "This massacre was a significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons used by that very bad regime".

The Pentagon says Syria launched 40 surface-to-air missiles in response to the coalition attack. "This was not about interfering in a civil war and it was not about regime change".

But it said skies were clear over Aleppo in the north, Hasakeh in the northeast, and Latakia and Tartus along the western coast, where key Syrian and Russian military installations are located.
