The Senator Representing Kogi West at the Senate was stopped at the Nnamdi Azikiwe worldwide airport in Abuja by immigration officers who said his name is on a flight ban list forwarded to them by the police.

The lawmaker made this known via Twitter.

Spokesman of the Service, Mr Sunday James, said that Senator Dino Melaye was arrested by Immigration officials "based on instruction".

The senator tweeted that he was picked up on Monday on his way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Nigerian government. Immigration officers invited me that there is a directive from the police that I can't travel; that I am on their watch list.

Jaiye said the police did not have any warrant issued against Melaye to "warrant the harassment".

Apart from the presence of the police in their numbers, an unmarked police pick up van was also used to block the street near Melaye's residence.

One of the lawyers of Melaye who identified himself as Ajayi Jaiye said he had not been able to contact his client.

"We have called Interpol and they said it is a lie".

Recall that the police on Wednesday, March 28, declared Dino Melaye wanted.

However, the police have denied any connection with the arrest of the senator. He accused the police of either killing them or being complicit in their escape from custody.
