Samsung Unveils Its Fastest SSDs Yet, 970 Pro And 970 Evo Available Soon

Samsung debuts new 970 PRO and EVO NVMe SSDs

Consumers can look forward to the new Samsung 970 Pro and 970 EVO on store shelves starting from May 7.

"The sequential write speeds represent an enhancement of up to 30 percent over the previous generation, thanks to Samsung's latest V-NAND technology and the newly designed Phoenix controller", Samsung says. Both drives continue to come near the top of the charts as a storage solution, but now Samsung is set to replace them with the 970 Pro and Evo. The Pro is offered in 512GB and 1TB capacities, where as the Evo will be offered as 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB drives. Prices for the EVO series start at $119.99 while the PRO series starts at $329.99. Are you thinking of jumping on the 970 series? Both the 970 PRO and EVO are designed around the M.2 form factor, with the PCIe Gen 3×4 lane interface.

The results are frankly bonkers - the 970 Pro can offer 3500MB/s of read (sequential) and 2700MB/s write (slightly less for the Evo - 3500MB/s and 2500MB/s). The Evo on the other hand uses 3-bit MLC memory, has write speeds of up to 2,500MB/s with 480,000 IOPS. As for endurance, Samsung's new 970 PRO and EVO NVMe SSDs have a rating of up to 1,200 terabytes written (TBW), 50% higher than the previous generation drives. Further reliability is offered by a Dynamic Thermal Guard ensuring the drives don't overheat and Samsung Magician software, which manages the drives and keeps them performing optimally. In addition, Samsung's Intelligent TurboWrite tech in the 970 EVO speeds things up even more by using a buffer up to 78 GB in size. The 1TB model uses 1GB LPDDR4, while the 2TB model uses 2GB LPDDR4.

But as sources tell T.H.R., casting directors have relaxed on that front in recent years, which might mean there's room for more. She will have at least two months to film the AMC series before Whiskey would begin filming, more if it is a midseason pickup.

[3] Up to 29% and 32% in sequential write speeds, respectively, have increased when compared to Samsung 960 PRO and EVO.
