Out of 65 hospitals in the state, 22 got A grades, 24 received B grades and 18 were given C grades.

B grades went to Kaleida Health's Buffalo General Medical Center and Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville, as well as Erie County Medical Center, and three Catholic Health hospitals - Mercy, Sisters and the Sisters Hospital St. Joseph Campus in Cheektowaga.

The LeapFrog Group assesses about 2,500 USA hospitals twice a year by using 27 measures of publically available hospital safety data to assign hospitals A, B, C, D or F grades.

It is one of only 11 hospitals in Washington and 750 of 2,660 nationwide to achieve an A rating this spring. The nation's capital has consistently ranked near the bottom of Leapfrog's rankings analysis. Duke University had received an "A" grade the past six reports, and WakeMed Cary Hospital had received an "A" four of the past five reports. She continued, "In the case of Washington, D.C., we're encouraged residents have an "A" hospital in the area for the first time in five years".
