More workers ask for mental health help

Prince Harry's public admissions around the grief he suffered regarding the death of his mother and the mental health support he sought as a result, has had, I think, immeasurable impact on public awareness of mental health and attitudes towards those suffering mental illness.

Mental Health Awareness Week, from Monday to Sunday, May 14 to 20, aims to draw attention to the prevalence of emotional problems which the Mental Health Foundation says affect one in three people during their lifetimes. Generally, around one in four people in Scotland are estimated to be affected by mental illness in any one year, so even if you personally don't experience a problem, it is inevitable that someone close to you will.

The CEO of the mental health charity behind the UK's first ever comprehensive national mental health database, the Hub of Hope has urged people across the country to make time for their own mental wellbeing. Classes are also available to join throughout the week and the gym also offers a separate ladies' only gym area.

The roundtable, held by the Legal Professions Wellbeing Taskforce, agreed that understanding your own emotions and personal values was vital in dealing with stressful and hard situations in the workplace.

Paul continued, "Workers in this region were most likely to say that improving the office culture around mental health was the change that their organisation could make if they wanted to better support employee mental health".

More than 1,000 validated mental health support networks have already registered on the web app, with the number increasing each day, and it has been endorsed by the Samaritans and 25 other national mental health support organisations.

Mental health charity LawCare has also distributed new leaflets, posters and digital collateral to over 50 firms, chambers and professional bodies in a bid to reach more lawyers during the week.

I personally have spent time talking to people, particularly young people, about mental health - both about how we promote good mental health and how we as a government can provide better and faster support to people who are experiencing difficulties.
