Alabama and Texas football have announced a home-and-home series for the 2022 and '23 seasons, the schools announced on Wednesday. The Crimson Tide will visit Austin, Texas, for the first game on September 10, 2022, with the Longhorns slated to make the return trip to Tuscaloosa on September 9, 2023.
The 2022 game will be the 10th all-time meeting between two of college football's most storied programs, and will be the first since Alabama knocked off Texas 37-21 to claim the 2009 BCS National Championship in Pasadena, California. In nine previous matchups between the two college football titans, Texas - and not Alabama - holds a decided edge with a 7-1-1 record. We've collected a sampling of the reactions below.
"We are pleased and happy to be able to add an opponent the caliber of the University of Texas to our nonconference schedule", Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement.
As a result of the Alabama-Texas series being scheduled, the Longhorns had to make several adjustments to their future schedules. Alabama will travel to Texas in 2022 and the teams meet in Tuscaloosa the following year. Those adjustments are noted below. The Longhorns will push a home-and-home series with Ohio State from those years back to 2025-2026.
