Mr Markle, a former TV cinematographer, would have met his future son-in-law for the first time on the trip.

But he insisted the "deal" was not "principally" about money. The others show him working out with weights to apparently get in shape for the wedding, getting measured by a "tailor" for a custom suit and looking at a book on British landmarks in a Starbucks.

He added that he had repeatedly turned down offers of $50,000 to $100,000 for photos, but took up the offer from photographer Jeff Rayner.

According to TMZ, he told the website he regretted allowing the pictures to be taken and acknowledged they looked "stupid".

There was no independent confirmation that Mr Markle had been ill, however.

Mr Markle also told the website he felt like he needed to go to hospital again because he was anxious he was suffering another heart attack. He also rode with her in the coach to the abbey.

Still, Markle's media experience, gained during her career as an actress, has been evident from the start. His health and safety are paramount [to Meghan].

"I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle", Mr Markle told TMZ.
