One year after eight Rutgers teams were cited by the NCAA for being among the top 10 percent nationally in multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR), Rutgers achieved that same record-total Wednesday when the college athletics governing body released its list of teams recognized for academic excellence after scoring in the top 10 percent of their sports in the most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Of the 68 teams in the NCAA Tournament, Gonzaga men's basketball was one of 13 to receive the award.
The NCAA has recognized a total of 77 Penn State teams with a Public Recognition Award since the program's inception in 2006.
The women's tennis program has been honored 10 consecutive times, while the men's tennis program was recognized for the fifth time and fourth consecutive. "I commend these student-athletes for their full dedication to both their academics and their team". Since the April program was put into place, the three Villanova programs which have earned public recognition awards most often are women's track & field (10 recognition awards), golf and men's tennis (nine recognition awards each).
This continues a trend in which GW Athletics has seen at least six teams earn APR Public Recognition Awards in each of the last seven years. "The combination of athletics, academic studies and academic support staff at Penn State is wonderful and I can't wait to see our student-athletes making an impact in their communities once they graduate!" The field hockey team, led by coach Char Morett, has received an NCAA Public Recognition Award nine times.

Denhollander says she remains "deeply disappointed at the missed opportunity for meaningful reform at the university". More than 250 gave statements in court when Nassar was sentenced for sexual assault in January and February.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport. Each scholarship athlete can earn two points per semester toward his or her team's score.
Penn State, No. 2 in the 2018 final Winter Learfield Directors' Cup standings, has one of the nation's most comprehensive and successful athletic programs, featuring 800 student-athletes across 31 varsity programs (16 men's, 15 women's).
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.
All Division I programs' April scores will be released publicly on May 23.
