Deadpool crashes the "Late Show" and trash-talks Trump

Deadpool vs. Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert had a surprise guest on his show last night: Deadpool. "Huge asshole", he proclaimed. The subsequent grief and mourning leads Deadpool to a situation involving an oversized teenage mutant Russel Collins (Firefist), played by New Zealand actor Julian Dennison.

All in all, Deadpool 2 is bigger, bolder and certainly funnier than ever.

Although going through four hours of sitting in a chair getting made up every day is hard, the actor claimed that putting on the Deadpool mask and suit gives him a sense of freedom hitherto unknown in his lengthy career. In a movie that embraces its comedy as much as its violence, Reynolds manages to carry those dramatically heavier moments with a genuine charm that comes from his own personal investment in the character.

In contrast to Marvel's ultra-serious approach-which does have humor, but only as a way to lubricate us for exposition-there's a refreshing casualness to Deadpool 2, where the universe never hangs in the balance.

Deadpool 2 is in theaters everywhere Friday. He asks when at what point will audiences say enough with the superheroes? Deadpool 2's plot, while familiar in a way, is much more coherent, unpredictable, and overall more engaging and satisfying.

Lachlan Murdoch to serve as chairman, CEO of New Fox
Comcast Corp., the largest US cable channel, is said to be preparing financing for a potential counterbid for the Fox operations. In 2013, Fox was separated from Murdoch's News Corp., which retained newspaper operations in the US, Britain and Australia.

Deadpool also must deal with the arrival of Cable (Josh Brolin, less purple than his Infinity War character), a time-traveler with a robotic arm and a grudge against Russell.

A major problem that Deadpool 2 borrows from the first movie is failing at fine-tuning the tonal shift between emotional scenes and meta humour. What we do get to see of both Beetz's Domino and Brolin's Cable are excellent though and leaves you wanting more. Well, believe them! The movie also doesn't shy away from the gore, justifying the R-rating to fullest. "I mean, I love him and he has such an interesting take on where he wants to take that world".

The writing includes a gay superhero in the story but offsets this good representation by making Indian cab driver Dopinder a mere caricature, all the while cracking jokes about 'cultural appropriation.' Again in Deadpool's defence, nothing is serious in the movie apart from his relationship with Vanessa.

Structurally, Deadpool 2 feels like a less complete journey this time round and seems to lose some direction, but it's so entertaining you don't really care. In fact, we knew Reynolds would eventually play the role when in the comic book series Cable & Deadpool (2004) the antihero describes his scarred face as "Ryan Reynolds crossed with a Shar-Pei".

Deadpool 2 is now playing in cinemas everywhere.
