Utah man in Venezuelan jail says prison 'has fallen' by people wanting to kill him

So they've taken out the entire prison where I am at.

Joshua Holt, from Utah, is being held at the El Helicoide facility in Caracas, where riots broke out on Wednesday over a desire for speedier hearings and freedom for those who had been granted release orders.

In 2016 Holt traveled to Venezuela to marry Thamara Candela. Please my fellow Americans don't allow me to continue suffering in Venezuela I am not a political pawn i am a humanbeing a child of God and I just want to live happy with my wife and children. His family has said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time of a raid in the Caracas neighborhood where his wife's family lives. We need the people to help us.' He was flanked by three other men.

Mr Maduro is widely expected to win despite a crushing economic crisis marked by widespread shortages and hyperinflation.

"They're trying to break in".

"They want to kill me and paint the walls with my blood".

The Holt family released a statement through Trujillo, saying they were both "deeply troubled and concerned" about the riots. Venezuela's chief prosecutor said his office was on site, but did not provide details. That delegation spoke to a representative of the prisoners to respond to their requests.

The Trump administration has suggested there are political motives for Mr Holt's continued detention.

A group of Venezuelan political police officers, with their faces covered, stand guard at the main door of SEBIN headquarters.

"We're demanding that all political prisoner be freed, all of us who have been held here, kidnapped for years without justice or due process", he told CNN via telephone from inside the jail.

The Trump administration has warned it could put crippling oil sanctions on Venezuela if Mr Maduro goes ahead with what the United States and others consider a sham presidential election on Sunday.

There was no official information on the incident and family members said they were in the dark about what was happening at the Helicoide, headquarters of intelligence agency Sebin, where several hundred people are behind bars. The people have taken the entire prison.

In one video, Daniel Ceballos, a former opposition mayor, is seen trying to jimmy open the padlock on a cell using a dumbbell and iron rod.

Venezuela's Information Ministry did not respond to a request for comment. Maduro has said all jailed activists were being held on legitimate charges of violence and subversion.

Joshua Holt and other American citizens are in danger. The embassy tweeted that Venezuela's government is responsible for the safety of prisoners and will be held accountable if something happens.
