The dogs involved in the attack were all under 40 pounds, with legs shorter than an adult's hands, according to images of their remains reviewed by the Daily Ardmoreite.
When police arrived at the scene, they shot one of the dogs to death as it attempted to attack a responding officer, KXII-TV in Ardmore reported. The other six dogs were taken to a local veterinary hospital where they were euthanized at the owner's request.
"This is a bad situation, a very unfortunate situation", Bryant said, KTEN reported.
Hawaii born Broadway actress injured in tragic crash loses unborn baby
The Tony-Award winning actress, Ruthie Ann Blumenstein whose 4-year-old daughter was killed in a auto crash loses her unborn baby. To make matters worse, the alleged culprit had previously racked up eight tickets for running red lights and speeding violations.
They were all described as dachshund-terrier or dachshund-border collie mixes. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims". She later died at the hospital.
The dogs had no visible health problems, other than a flea and tick infestation. It appears they were living out in the woods, said Amanda Dinwiddie, euthanasia technician at the Ardmore Animal Shelter, according to KXII.
Dinwiddie claimed the dogs-three females and four males-ranged in age from a year to about three years. Six of them were about a year old while a seventh - likely the mother - was three-years-old. The initial report that a pit bull was among the dogs was inaccurate, he said.
Police have not arrested anyone yet but continue to investigate. The district attorney will determine whether any charges will be filed against the owner of the dogs. "This is just a bad deal all the way around".
