Turkey, Russia, and Iran have reached an agreement on holding the next high-level meeting on Syria in Sochi in July 2018.

Read Haddad, the country's ambassador to Russian Federation said: "Syria has its own sovereignty".

The report noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the strike after conferring with U.S. President Donald Trump, in hopes of preventing Iran from using the anti-aircraft battery against Israeli jets carrying out strikes in Syria.

"Our forces, including the air defence, protect the Syrian sky and land".

After meeting with Putin, Netanyahu said Russian Federation was unlikely to interfere in Israel's actions in Syria, despite Russia's condemnation of Israel's latest airstrikes on May 9. Both Damascus and Moscow said the Syrian army had managed to shoot down more than half of the missiles.

Pompeo vows US and allies will 'crush' Iranian operatives globally
We will track down Iranian operatives and their Hezbollah proxies operating around the world and crush them. The secretary also made an explicit appeal to the Iranian people.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Monday, Qassemi pointed to recent reports about Russia's call for the withdrawal of all foreign military forces from Syria and said, "No one can force Iran to do anything".

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supported its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.

Damascus has also responded to the airstrikes and considers the Israeli airstrikes as an aggression. "There are some countries that have cooperative military relationships with Syria [such as Russia]".

Nevertheless, an Iranian lawmaker quoted by Lebanon's Al-Manar television network, denied his country was behind the barrage. He and his counterpart hailed the beginning of the "political process" in Syria amid an ongoing "fight against terrorism".

The objective of "Operation Chess" was to prevent Iran from carrying out reprisals for an Israeli airstrike against the Iranian-controlled T-4 air base in central Syria on April 9, which killed at least seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including a senior officer responsible for its drone program. Israel has reportedly carried out repeated air strikes against them, hoping to stop the formation of a Lebanese-Syrian front to its north and the transfer of arms to Hezbollah.
