Allergan Recalls Taytulla Birth-Control Packs After Pills Placed Out of Order

(Users take one pill a day for 28 days.) However, Allergan received a report from a physician that a single pack of Taytulla had a packaging error that put the placebo pills out of order. The pack has 24 pink capsules with "WC" on them to be taken for 24 days, then four maroon capsules (the placebo caps) to be taken for the next four days.

Check your birth control, it might be under recall. Recalled pills have the lot number 5620706 and expire in May 2019.

Allergan, the manufacturer of Taytulla, announced Tuesday that it was issuing a nationwide recall of one lot of the pills, totaling almost 170,000 packs, after being notified of a packaging error by a physician.

Allergan said it was notifying consumers by letter of the potential trouble. Instead, the faulty pack had four maroon placebos at the start of the treatment. If patients have concerns regarding the possibility of an unintended pregnancy they should consult their physician.

According to STAT News, this is the only lot of sample packs that have been identified as incorrectly packaged.

The recall issued in the USA market is of one lot (Lot# 5620706, Expiry May-2019) of TAYTULLA® (norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol capsules and ferrous fumarate capsules) 1mg/20mcg, 6x28 physicians sample pack, indicated for use by women to prevent pregnancy.
