As Liverpool reignite their interest in signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke, an old interview has re-emerged revealing that Shaqiri wanted to join the Reds in 2014 but wasn't allowed to leave by Bayern Munich.
Shaqiri is one of a number of players on Liverpool's radar this transfer window as Jurgen Klopp looks increase his options in the final third of the pitch.
At Liverpool, Shaqiri would be resigned to a bit-part role due to the formidable form of their current front-three and, as an inverted winger playing on the right, he does not offer anything different to their talisman Mohamed Salah.
"He was good at Stoke".
He said: "I want players who are committed to Stoke City - and if players want to leave, I will try and find the best solution to make that happen".
