Kardashian West tweeted in response to the news on Wednesday, "BEST NEWS EVER!".
Johnson's daughter Catina Scales spoke with Business Insider earlier on Wednesday, as she was en route to pick her mother up from the Aliceville correctional facility in Alabama.
Johnson, 63, was sentenced to life in prison on federal drug possession and money laundering charges after being convicted in Tennessee in 1996.
"I don't believe that there should be a non-violent offender like myself sentenced to life", she said.
Surrounded by her family, Johnson expressed her deepest gratitude - to God, to Kardashian West, to Trump, and then to her legal advocates and the public at large.
"Trump is using you as a political pawn", Jones said, "so now you sort of, you've endorsed him in a way, you've kinda given him legitimacy". "It is a risk for her on one level since a lot of her fans are liberal, a lot of people do not like Donald Trump, but I think a lot of those people now realise we can't just say that on issues like this".
Healy says "Sure, it's somewhat ridiculous that the recommendations came from Kim Kardashian and Sly Stallone instead of the Office of the Pardon Attorney; on the other hand, they're better pardons than most recent presidents manage most years".
Simona Halep beats Muguruza at French Open to reach 4th Slam final
Stephens can join Serena Williams and Jennifer Capriati as the only American women to win a French Open title since 1987. Simona Halep is the fourth player in the Open Era to play a Grand Slam final having previously lost three.
"I want to tell my war angel, thank you for never giving up, you did it, you fought and you fought until I was free", she said.
Johnson, who was freed after 22 years in prison, added, "I'd like to tell him that, please, please remember us, the others who have been left behind because there are so many like me who need to have an opportunity, the opportunity that I've had".
As for Johnson's next steps, she'll have regular check-ins with her parole officer and is making plans to meet Kardashian West soon.
Johnson admitted that she did relay coded messages via telephone but never personally made drug deals or sold deals. "(But) there are other celebrities like John Legend, who are really intensely, on an nearly cellular level, working on criminal justice reform and prosecutorial reform in this country and who take it very seriously.
Johnson had served almost 22 years of a life sentence for a non-violent drug offence. She vowed, "And if I get out - I have a job secured, and plan to continue to help those in prison and work hard to change our justice system".
She said the President "felt it". Kardashian had cited her case in her advocacy for sentencing reform.
She tweeted her thanks to the president and Mr Kushner, saying: "So grateful to @realDonaldTrump, Jared Kushner & to everyone who has showed compassion & contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson".
