Yahoo! has announced that on July 17, it will officially shut down its long-running Messenger client and service. From July 18, 2018 on users won't be able to access chats and other services related to Yahoo Messenger anymore.

Yahoo Messenger launched on March 9, 1998 as Yahoo Pager, and then got its iconic rebranding on June 21, 1999. Yahoo IDs will remain in service for access to Mail and fantasy sports.
People who want an archive of their Yahoo Messaging texts can visit a special website where they can download a history of their messages, but they only have six months to do so.
Yahoo Messenger will shut down on July 17.
