Trump disrupts gender equality meeting at G-7 summit by arriving late

President Donald Trump on Saturday tweeted the U.S. won't endorse the joint statement from the Group of Seven summit, and threatened auto tariffs.

The letter, which comes after Trump imposed hefty aluminium and steel tariffs on the European Union and other trade allies, focuses on the trade and investment relationship between the European Union and the USA - a relationship which, the ambassadors say, "other countries can only dream of".

"Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!" the U.S. president tweeted.

Sharply criticizing Trump's remarks on tariffs, Trudeau promised that Canada would answer with its own on July 1 unless the US reversed course. "That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did".

Trump called Trudeau "very dishonest and weak" on Twitter on Saturday and then sent Kudlow and trade adviser Peter Navarro to hammer the message home on Sunday morning news shows in an extraordinary assault on a close US ally and neighbor.

On Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sniped about "stragglers" after Trump was late to a breakfast session on gender equality. "Very dishonest & weak", the president tweeted. "After many decades, fair and reciprocal Trade will happen!"

A WTO panel ruled in 2002 that Canada breached its trade obligations through its dairy support, siding with the United States.

Prime Minister Trudeau is being so indignant, bringing up the relationship that the USA and Canada had over the many years and all sorts of other things...but he doesn't bring up the fact that they charge us up to 300% on dairy - hurting our Farmers, killing our Agriculture!

"Canadians. stood shoulder to shoulder with American soldiers in far off lands in conflicts from the First World War onward", the prime minister said at a press conference at the end of the summit.

Saturday's clashes ended a summit that was marked by repeated disagreements between the United States and its closest allies.

"I think one of the results of this G7 leaders' meeting will be to talk about the situation on the Korean peninsula and let the USA president know, and let the world know, that he will be travelling to Singapore to the meeting with the North Korea with the strong support of his allies", Freeland said.

Carbon Engineering takes major step in cutting carbon capture costs
The Swiss company Climeworks has a 900 ton of Carbon dioxide per year commercial facility that has been operating since 2017. The CO2 could be pumped into reserves underground, but Carbon Engineering wants to convert the CO2 into fuel.

In retrospect, the consensus had appeared shaky from the outset, and even as Trump flew out it was clear that the summit had failed to heal the rift on trade. But has already made significant changes to trade policy - working around bipartisan opposition from Congress - through invoking a previously seldom-used provision that allows presidents to make trade decisions if they deem it necessary to protect national security.

President Trump earlier told reporters he had proposed the idea of a tariff-free G7 to other leaders and described his talks with them as "extremely productive".

Despite the tensions at the gathering in Canada, Mr Trump rated his relationship with their leaders as a "10" - naming Germany's Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and Mr Trudeau, but not the UK Prime Minister.

"It's going to change, a hundred per cent".

Over the course of his presidency, Trump has inflamed allies with his isolationist policies, including withdrawing the USA from the Paris climate accord and the worldwide Iran nuclear agreement. A Canadian official said the leaders discussed accelerating the pace of the talks.

"We're looking for peace in the world".

"Nevertheless, I do not consider that with a declaration all is obtained and it is obvious that we will have in the coming weeks, the next months, to continue to work", Macron told reporters.

Trump is not the first politician to make the realpolitik argument that Russian Federation belongs at the G-7 table, but his position is a turnabout from the Obama administration, which condemned the 2014 annexation and imposed sanctions on Russian Federation as punishment. "You want a tariff-free - you want no barriers, and you want no subsidies", he said.

Any Nafta deal will have a sunset provision of some kind, Trump said Saturday, though he indicated some people are pushing against a five-year time frame. Although, new Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte sided with Trump.
