Avengers: Infinity War soars past the $2 billion mark globally

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Becomes Fourth Pic To Cross $2 Billion Global Mark

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Global Box Office Tops $2 Billion

Of Infinity War's $2 billion-plus worldwide total, $1.346 billion came from overseas sales, which even contains boosts from the normally Marvel-resistant movie market of China, where it made an astounding (for China, ) $369.7 million, making it the country's third-biggest box office haul. But as the marketing for "Infinity War" progressed, it became increasingly clear that Hawkeye will not play a part in the Avengers' initial bout against Thanos. Domestically, Avengers: Infinity War is the fifth-highest grossing film of all time, with $656.1 million. The film, as the outlet points out, is also Marvel Studios' highest-grossing release ever, smashing The Avengers' $1.5 billion worldwide pull, Avengers: Age of Ultron's $1.4 billion take-home, and Black Panther's $1.345 billion global gross. The film now sits at #4 of the all-time box office list and is $67 million away from passing Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

So can Infinity War catch Force Awakens? That means it's unlikely that Infinity War will catch up to Titanic, and Avatar remains untouchable. It's now the third highest-grossing offshore release of all time behind Avatar ($2.027 billion), and Titanic ($1.528 billion). The same report predicts a sure-shot $2 billion gross for Avengers 4. This makes Infinity War the fourth film in movie history to earn such a distinction. Its $257.7 million domestic opening weekend set a new record.

Other top territories include United Kingdom ($95.1M), South Korea ($92.8M), Brazil ($65.9M), Mexico ($59.9M), Australia ($46.3M), France ($45.3M), India ($43.6M), Germany ($43.4M), Russian Federation ($34.4M), and Japan ($33.6M).

Disney looks to repeat, or even possibly exceed, the success of "Infinity War" a little less than a year from now when its sequel "Avengers 4" opens on May 3, 2019.

The movie, which stars Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, and Benedict Cumberbatch, among many others, is now the third consecutive Avengers movie to break the $1 billion barrier.
