President Trump's historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday in Singapore could be good news for a border city between China and North Korea.

After hours of discussions, the two men signed an agreement committing the United States to unspecified "security guarantees" in exchange for a denuclearized Korean peninsula.

Exactly what Kim means by "complete denuclearization" is not clear. While he is hopeful for reunification between the two Koreas, he realises it will be hard.

The Massachusetts Democrat, who has been one of the most outspoken critics of the Trump administration, said that "success will be judged on whether it can eliminate Kim's nuclear weapons and verify they are gone".

"Without Otto this would not have happened", Trump told a post-summit news conference in Singapore.

"I showed it because I really want him to do something", he said. In Singapore, he met the leader of the world's most powerful nation as an equal. They walked outside together after the lunch, stopping briefly to look at the US president's special limousine.

After Singapore, the US will find it more hard to persuade the rest of the world to maintain punishing economic sanctions against the now ever-so-reasonable North. Things will be changing in North Korea, Trump added. "Our forces in South Korea are stabilizing for Asia".

What was accomplished during this historic meeting was the signing of a comprehensive document, with the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula. "He just brushed me off". If they said something very bad and very threatening and frightful just don't answer. "At the same time, there needs to be a peace mechanism for the peninsula, to resolve North Korea's reasonable security concerns". "My meeting with Chairman Kim was honest, direct, and productive".

But a slushy "freeze-for-freeze"-with no decisive steps toward denuclearization-is precisely what President Trump has agreed to: a freeze of joint USA and South Korean military exercises in exchange for a continued freeze on North Korean nuclear and missile testing, accompanied by no concrete North Korean commitment to freeze further development of its nuclear and missile programs. The Korean War never ended, it was a cease-fire and now we have a chance to put that conflict to bed".

South Korea's Moon got it right with his reaction to the summit. We fly in bombers from Guam... to practice and drop bombs all over the place and then go back to Guam. By meeting Kim, the USA president has given them his blessing. Journalists in attendance reported that the North Korean leader appeared "stunned" by the remarks - although he reportedly smiled after sitting down.

Trump has in the past condemned it as one of the world's most brutal governments.
