Croatia will face England in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup after they defeated hosts Russian Federation 4-3 on penalties on Saturday evening.

Real Madrid star Luka Modric, earlier goalscorer Vida and Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic all converted their penalty kicks, handing the Croatians a 4-3 win in the penalty shootout. Wrote one, "Putin is looking into Croatia's next elections and how he can help".

The Villarreal left winger launched a 25-yard shot that nestled into the top-left corner.

Andrej Kramaric replied for the Croats five minutes before halftime with a power header inside the box following a delicate cross from Mario Mandzukic.

When is the FIFA World Cup 2018 Russian Federation vs Croatia Quarter-Final match? Only Belgium have had more with nine (excluding own goals).

One Civilian Fatality Reported In Klamathon Fire
Meanwhile, to the northeast in Lake County, firefighters maintained 92 percent containment on the 15,000-acre Pawnee Fire. One person has died due to the fire, a spokeswoman for the agency said on Friday, without providing any details.

It's the second straight match for both teams that went to a penalty shootout.

It was a dramatic end to the match for Subasic who went down with what appeared to be a hamstring injury late in regulation time.

The reaction to Vida's goal was nearly one of shock as it crept through the legs of teammate Vedran Corluka and into the bottom corner, with the home crowd left temporarily silent and in disbelief as the goalscorer reeled away and ripped off his shirt in celebration. Alan Dzagoev chipped the free kick towards goal and Fernandes was unmarked.

The game was hardly the most exciting 120 minutes of football, although it was still better than France vs Denmark, and the teams couldn't be separated in "normal" time.

The winners will play England in the semi-finals at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Wednesday.
