Ankara has been disappointed with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies for not supporting Turkey's fight against terrorism and the lack of cooperation in meeting Turkey's defense needs.In addition, the Turkish president is expected to meet with European Council President Donald Tusk, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Parliament President Antonio Tajani.Several members of Turkey's new Cabinet will reportedly accompany Erdoğan on his visit. Tusk also urged European NATO members to spend more on defense, but noted: "Money is important but generating solidarity is more important".

Trump took Twitter swipes at Canada following the G7 summit - mostly over Canadian dairy trade policy - but reserved his most persistent and personal attacks for Trudeau himself, calling him "dishonest" and "weak" for telling the closing G7 news conference that Canada would not be "pushed around" on trade.

"The United States continues to devote more resources to the defense of Europe when the Continent's economy, including Germany's, are doing well and security challenges abound".

European Council President Mr Tusk said pointedly that when Mr Trump did meet Mr Putin on 16 July, "it is always worth knowing who is your strategic friend and who is your strategic problem".

Germany's defense spending is now 1.24 percent of its GDP.

She added that "Trump is also bringing Putin a "little" present-why 'little, ' I don't know".

"NATO members must finally contribute their fair share and meet their financial obligations ..."
