US indicts 12 Russians for hacking DNC emails during the 2016 election

Once inside, the GRU agents are accused of installing a spyware program called X-Agent, which allowed them to view the screens of party officials and log their keystrokes.

One of these was sending fake emails that would ask the receiver for login information and then sending that email covertly to the operatives - a technique called spearfishing.

USA intelligence agencies have concluded that Russian Federation used propaganda and hacking to meddle in the election in an effort to harm Clinton and eventually help Trump.

These indictments targeted 12 GRU officers. Another was based near central Moscow, not far from Defense Ministry headquarters.

Twelve Russian intelligence officers have been indicted in connection with the bitcoin-funded hacking of Democratic organizations and the Hillary Clinton campaign "with the intent to interfere" in the 2016 election, officials announced Friday. They also copied folders, including opposition research and field operation plans. They paid for their infrastructure using cryptocurrency.

Starting in at least March 2016, the Conspirators used a variety of means to hack the email accounts of volunteers and employees of the US presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton ... including the email account of the Clinton Campaign's chairman... And these indictments suggest that after Trump's order/plea/joke, Russians did step up their efforts to hack or deliver what turned out to be John Podesta's emails. Trump has said he believes Putin's denials that Russian Federation did not meddle in the election. For example, on or about July 27, 2016, the Conspirators attempted after hours to spearfish for the first time email accounts at a domain hosted by a third party and used by Clinton's personal office.

That actually was part of a GRU-created website which pushed custom software onto the targets' computers, enabling the Russians to begin their spying.

Second suspect arrested in murder of rapper XXXTentacion, sheriff's office says
An open casket viewing of the performer that was held at the BB&T Center in Sunrise drew massive crowds of young mourners. Florida police say they have arrested one of the men who they believe shot and killed rapper XXXTentacion last month.

Mueller did not allege that Trump campaign associates were involved in the hacking effort, that Americans were knowingly in touch with Russian intelligence officers or that any vote tallies were altered by hacking.

It was the most detailed United States accusation yet that Russian Federation meddled in the election with the eventual aim of trying to boost Republican Trump's campaign.

The two leaders are set to meet in Helsinki, Finland on Monday after the Department of Justice on Friday indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers for hacking into the computers of the Democratic National Committee.

Rosenstein said the Russians tried to infiltrate computers of state boards, secretaries of states and others who administer elections.

The men are identified by name, rank and job description and Mueller's indictment describes in granular detail when and how they carried out the hack-and-dump scheme.

"Today's charges include no allegations of knowing involvement by anyone on the campaign and no allegations that the alleged hacking affected the election result", White House spokesperson Lindsay Walters said in a statement.
