A missing OR woman has been found alive after somehow surviving driving her jeep off a cliff in Northern California's scenic Big Sur.
She was found by hikers on Friday after they saw her vehicle partially submerged at the bottom of a 60m (200ft) cliff in the Big Sur area.
The hikers discovered Hernandez conscious, breathing and with a shoulder injury, Thornburg said. But rescuers on scene reported she was talking and able to walk, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
She and her vehicle were last seen on a CCTV camera at a petrol station on 6 July, 50 miles north of where she was found. She was transported by ambulance to a waiting helicopter, then to the hospital.
Heavy fog in Monterey County hampered the search but on Friday, a couple of Big Sur campers noticed her partially submerged vehicle wreck at the bottom of a cliff and called 911.
Alone on the desolate shore for seven days, she survived by using her radiator hose to siphon water from a nearby stream, according to KGO-TV.
Ms Hernandez had been travelling from OR to Southern California to visit sister Isabel when her communication suddenly stopped.
Angela Hernandez was found alive after vanishing for a week
Ms Hernandez told investigators she had swerved to avoid an animal when she was driving along California's Highway 1, and plunged over the cliff edge.
The 23-year-old raised alarm when she was unreachable by her family on July 6.
Ms Hernandez would need time to get over her ordeal, her sister Isabel wrote on Facebook. It's not going to be an easy recovery.
"A couple found her lying there and immediately called for help".
Andrea Hernandez was rescued at the bottom of a cliff Friday, July 13, 2018, after she disappeared a week ago.
She said she lost control of her white Jeep Patriot near Nacimiento Fergusson Road at the south end of Big Sur State Park.
