Here's Apple's Lousy Attempt At Fixing the Keyboard on New MacBook Pros

If you own a MacBook or MacBook Pro with a butterfly keyboard, the chances are good that you may have experienced an annoying keyboard issue where some keys become unresponsive. Its likely that the stock availability of the 13-inch, as well as the 15-inch MacBook Pro, will expand over the next week as Apple ships out more stock of the laptop.

Just a few days ago Apple launched the latest additions to its MacBook Pro range, and the company talked about the fact that the keyboard is quieter.

As a long-time 2015 MacBook Pro user, I have been patiently waiting for a new MacBook Pro upgrade.

How widespread this issue is remains open to debate, but it's got serious enough that Apple has promised to replace any affected keyboard for free for a period of four years after the purchase date.

Other than waiting to see how the keyboards of the 2018 MacBook Pros fare in the real world, there's one other way to find out whether Apple fixed the keyboard: iFixit's "official" teardown.

There is debate about whether Apple is being completely open about the new design of the keyboard.

The iFixit team claims that the new MacBook Pro keyboards use a silicone membrane underneath every key to keep away dust particles from finding their way inside and jamming it up.

Apple's new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar models feature a slew of enhancements, including a third-generation butterfly keyboard, updated Intel chips, support for 32GB of RAM in the 15-inch model, and True Tone display technology. "This flexible enclosure is quite obviously an ingress-proofing measure to prevent the mechanism from seizing up under the brutal onslaught of microscopic dust", writes iFixit.
