Sharath Koppu, a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City was shot and killed July 6 by a robber, who is the alleged suspect killed by police Sunday after shooting at least three police officers. That's when the suspect they were trailing shot two officers in their patrol vehicle with a rifle.
The suspect drove away and then fled on foot, police said. Apparently, the suspect was shot after he shot and wounded the policemen in a major exchange of gunfire.
According to Kansas City Star report, police gunned down the suspected assailant of Sharath on Sunday evening.
They were surveilling a person of interest in the homicide that happened in the 5400 block of Prospect, in which UMKC student Sharath Koppu was killed. The condition of the third officer wasn't immediately available.
Two witnesses, Carl Bradley and Lemmie Dean, who were in a nearby motel, said they heard five gunshots coming from the direction of the restaurant. Relatives said Koppu was studying for a master's degree in computer engineering at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The suspect barricaded himself inside a home and began a standoff with police. Three cops are said to have suffered injuries in the attack by the accused, prompting the cops to shoot him to death.
"I can't think those people enough for having the courage to call our tips hotline and be willing to reach out to us", Kansas City Police Chief Rick Smith said.
Approximately 12:15pm undercover and tactical officers were conducting an ongoing investigation at 8300 E 40 hwy. The third officer was injured and one suspect was detained as the primary suspect fled again. "He was declared deceased by KCFD at that time".
KANSAS CITY - Law enforcement authorities are investigating an officer involved shooting that injured three officers in Kansas City. One additional detective was hit by gunfire and was also taken to the hospital. That officer's condition is unknown at this time.
"There is a large response from our department right now, basically every asset that we have to bring this situation safely to an end", said Kansas City police spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina, the KC Star reported.
