British Open: Carnoustie forces players to make driver decisions

Woods, who returned from his latest back operation at the end of previous year, has blown hot and cold this season but he clearly can not wait to get to grips with Carnoustie for the fourth time in his career. While he doesn't have a great record at The Open, he has a 12th and 20th place finish to go along with two missed cuts in four starts at golf's oldest championship.

I'll never forget the moment he took off his socks, and you knew you were witnessing something that would go down in golfing history. From my first time coming here as an amateur to being back now, it's just unbelievable how this course doesn't change.

Despite his age, Tiger Woods has revealed the British Open offers the best chance for the star golfer to win another major. He came to Carnoustie and played a "surreal" round in 30C temperatures before last week's Scottish Open at Gullane. Watson first won in 1975 and 34 years later almost emerged victorious again, losing in 2009 to Stewart Cink in a playoff.

"You need to play links golf and I've been fortunate that all the courses have been browned out, even down south so I feel like I've been playing this style of golf for a month".

When Tiger Woods speaks, everyone listens.

And so on the eve of this Open, as he approaches the four-year anniversary of his last major title, McIlroy finds himself searching for a way to channel that happy-go-lucky 18-year-old who was about to take the world by storm, to tap into the easygoing excellence that once defined his dominance. "And I was just like, 'Wow, I just hit a drive over 300 yards.' And now I'm hitting 2-irons over 360".

Praise for Putin, pity for Trump
Trump said that the meeting was the beginning of a long process, along with a strong dialogue with Russian Federation . The prime minister said he was working to protect Australia's democracy from foreign interference with new laws.

"I was on a nice run there from 2011 to 2014, " he said.

Adam Scott would be the fairytale victor this week, having come so close so many times including 2012 when his four, consecutive bogeys to close at Royal Lytham saw him throw away a title that was his, gifting the win to Ernie Els. "Even hitting sometimes four and five irons, they've been running 50, 60 yards".

"One shot is a quarter of a shot a round so it's not that much", he said. "I suspect he couldn't play that way now".

Viewers were given the chance to select the group they would like to track on Thursday afternoon, and the group featuring Woods, Hideki Matsuyama and Russell Knox was the preferred choice with 72 per cent of the vote. I've made a few adjustments, I've changed putters and I've tweaked my swing a little bit.

Rory McIlroy is the favorite entering this week.
