Jodie Whittaker drops huge teaser as new trailer revealed

We briefly see the Doctor and her friends traveling through some alien terrains, along with the Doctor wielding what appears to be a flamethrower.

The Thirteenth Doctor has finally landed! For one, we get a much - much! - better look at Jodie's new incarnation of the titular Time Lord and the actress is simply dazzling here (even if this trailer is still a bit on the short side). With the new season starting in October, the Doctor will be a woman-and that's not the only change in the show. On top of new glimpses at the Doctor in action, her new friends, and new timezones, we also got our tiniest first glimpse at the new version of the Sonic Screwdriver in the trailer. "Sometimes in episodes, people's response is different because they're speaking to a woman", she said.

We can't say whether or not Jodie Whittaker reads Vulture, but she did answer one of our Burning Questions about this year's Comic-Con.

She uttered a quiet "brilliant" before her spaceship, the TARDIS, started to explode, throwing her out the doors and plummeting towards the ground. Sit them down for Jodie's first episode so you can go, 'See?!' There is no barrier to entry this year!

Splashy debut aside, the panel was very cautious to reveal too much in the way of details on the forthcoming new season - and that includes a premiere date (beyond the fall). It's a big mainstream-accessible series of 10 varied, exciting standalone stories.

Sadly, one of those old things not likely to show up this upcoming season is Daleks. It's really important for us this season, especially.

Doctor Who season 11 is due to air later this year. And, if the Hall H audience is any indication, the fandom is ready for it.

Whittaker will be joined by an all-new cast of characters in the series, including Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill. In a way, it was a no-brainer. The new showrunner is Chris Chibnall, who previously worked on the Who spinoff Torchwood and the acclaimed crime drama Broadchurch (also starring Whittaker!).
