Montenegro govt says remains U.S. strong ally despite Trump comments

Trump Montenegro Has Very Strong People. Very Aggressive People

After Helsinki, Trump boasts of reinforcing NATO

Trump's comments to Fox News were also criticized domestically.

"I understand what you're saying, I've asked the same question", Trump said. I've asked the same question.

TRUMP: No, by the way, they have very strong people - they have very aggressive people. While trump called Montenegrins "very aggressive".

TUCKER CARLSON: So let's say Montenegro, which joined past year, is attacked. Its military only numbers about 2,000 personnel.

Trump alternately praised and belittled the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation during its recent meeting in Brussels, hectoring German Chancellor Angela Merkel, UK Prime Minister Theresa May and European Union chief Jens Stoltenberg.

NATO's common defence clause has only been invoked once - by America after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks conducted by Al-Qaeda. Montenegrin troops have even participated in USA -led military efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. "It's the idea of collective security, of building up a situation of strength, and creating a high cost for aggressive action that allows us to deter our adversaries, which unfortunately includes Vladimir Putin's Russian Federation".

Trump's skepticism towards Article 5 aligns with his distrust of multinational organizations in general, from the United Nations to the World Trade Organization.

After the Helsinki summit on July 16, Trump appalled United States politicians by appearing to side with Putin against his own intelligence agencies over allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.

Danica will also be making history as the first woman ever to host the show - a change she tells ABC News is long overdue. She's also a proven music fan, faithfully sporting headphones before every run during this year's games.

"The people of #Montenegro boldly withstood pressure from #Putin's Russian Federation to embrace democracy", McCain said on Twitter. "Their summit declaration that came out at the end of the summit stated clearly that any attack against one ally will be regarded as an attack against all".

[Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)] "Since President Trump took office, spending for the USA presence in military presence in Europe has been increased by 40%, and European allies are also stepping up, so actually doing more together on security on defence then before".

"The worldwide scene (is) filled with characters who don't fit in square boxes and in this case it's the President of the United States". There is now usually no debate or vote before the USA initiates or joins foreign wars, and it is only months or years after the US has already made commitments to other governments and local groups that members of Congress start to question the wisdom and legality of the mission.

But Trump added another wrinkle to the scenario and suggested Montenegro's "aggressive people" could spark a global conflict and drag the U.S. with it.

The Pentagon did not immediately comment.

Nothing, however, had quite prepared the world for Trump's comments in Helsinki after hours of meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose government, USA intelligence officials have concluded, meddled in the 2016 election, hacked Democratic Party emails and disseminated them in an effort to help Trump win. "They weren't paying", Trump said. But NATO, first formed to counter potential Soviet aggression in Europe, is seen by many as a check on Russian ambitions in Eastern Europe under a leader who has demonstrated a willingness to annex territory through military might.

"We have no intentions whatsoever to start World War III, we are too small for that", the country's foreign minister, Srdjan Darmanovic, told CNN in an exclusive interview.
