Suspect Barricaded In Silver Lake Trader Joe’s After Police Pursuit

Authorities say a woman was fatally wounded when a gunman being chased by police in Los Angeles fled into a supermarket and took hostages.

A gunman who took hostages inside a supermarket in the USA district of Silver Lake in Los Angeles was successfully nabbed by the police after a three-hour operation on Saturday, AP reported.

Outside the store, the man exchanged gunfire with police again and a woman was shot and killed.

A woman has been killed after a man who shot his grandmother and girlfriend crashed his vehicle during a police chase and took hostages inside a supermarket. They say they chased the vehicle and exchanged gunfire with the man, who crashed into a pole outside the supermarket and then ran inside. "He came out of the vehicle, the cops were already shooting at him in that instant, right before he came out of the auto", said Miguel Jeffrey Trujillo Cerventes, who saw the end of the police chase and the suspect emerge from his auto.

Aerial footage from local TV stations NBC Los Angeles and CBS Los Angeles showed people leaving a store window using a rope ladder and police carrying children to safety through a parking lot in the city's Silver Lake neighborhood.

Customers ran out of the store when the armed man burst in. Officials said they would not release her name until her family was notified.

The deadly incident reportedly began when Atkins became involved in a family argument and shot his 78-year-old grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Madison, seven times, according to an account by The Associated Press.

Teams of specialist officers are continuing their forensic search for traces of novichok at Queen Elizabeth Gardens in Salisbury. As it turned out, while walking down the street Rowley and Sturgess found a bottle, which they thought was perfume.

Witness Devin Field said it appeared traffic prevented the suspect from escaping police when he crashed in front of the store. By the end of it all, after he surrendered around 6:30 p.m., authorities said a woman was killed while at least nine others were injured - including those before the chase. He suffered a gunshot wound to his arm, officials said. A day earlier, Trader Joe's employee Melyda Corado was shot and killed at the store by a suspect being chased by police. An employee dragged an injured woman by the hands out the front door, he said.

The gunman was apprehended, and his grandmother was in critical condition at a hospital, the Times reported. Over the course of the standoff, several people walked out of the store with their hands up.

"There is still an active police incident at the #TraderJoes near the intersection of Hyperion Ave and Griffith Park Blvd", the LAPD tweeted.

"My wife and I shopped here nearly weekly when we lived near here", said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti who, along with new LAPD Chief Michel Moore and Los Angeles City Councilmember David Ryu, held a news conference at the scene around 7 p.m. shortly after the gunman finally surrendered.

Law enforcement surrounded the building and had weapons pointed at the store.

Employees and customers inside the store dove for cover as the bullets flew. Arnold spoke to a young woman who'd been in contact with her brother, one of the hostages who she heard had been hiding in either a "refrigerator or freezer".
