Facebook Dating may let you keep secrets from friends and family

For those of you waiting to try and find love through your social network, the Facebook dating app is now being tested internally inside the company, according to app researcher Jane Manchun Wong.

MANILA, Philippines - Facebook is reportedly testing a couple of new features that could soon be added to the platform - a dating service and a "Create" button.

The screenshots show that "Facebook Dating" would offer users a choice of five genders: woman, trans woman, man, trans man and non-binary people.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to move into the lucrative dating market earlier this year. The objective for this dogfooding is to test the end-to-end product experience for bugs and confusing UI.

The social media giant later confirmed the dating product is in testing within the main Facebook app but declined to comment further. This is not meant for dating your coworkers. However the company also has informed the employees that they can not use the app for dating co-workers and that Facebook's company guidelines still apply while using the app. Also, if you block someone on Dating, that person won't be blocked on Facebook too. "Dogfooding" is a term used by tech companies to refer to internal testing of a product before it's released to the public. However, what you do within the dating feature will not be shown to your friends.

Dating apps like Bumble already ask users to sign in using their Facebook accounts in a bid to spot mutual friends - and avoid making embarrassing connections with family members or close friends. Also, you'll be able to choose if you want the friends of your friends to see you as well.
