Former first lady Michelle Obama led a slew of celebratory messages to her husband Barack Obama who turned 57 on Saturday.

Last year, the Illinois legislature passed a bill declaring August 4 be known as Barack Obama Day, to celebrate "the 44th President of the United States of America who began his career serving the People of Illinois in both the Illinois State Senate and the United States Senate, and dedicated his life to protecting the rights of Americans and building bridges across communities".

President Donald Trump touted his approval numbers in a Sunday afternoon tweet that also pointed to the economy and military, while claiming he had "better numbers" than former President Barack Obama "by far", though he did not specify which numbers he was addressing. He served two terms as president, from January 20, 2009, until January 20, 2017. This is the first year the law has been in effect.

During his tenure, Obama championed marriage equality, regulated against LGBTQ-based employment discrimination, and created protections for gay and transgender students.

In the meantime, Obama's spokesperson told USA Today that he will celebrate his 57th birthday with his family in Washington D.C. today.
