Aftershock at 5.9-magnitude strikes Indonesian island days after natural disaster
Indonesia's disaster agency says the death toll from the quake that shook Lombok island Sunday evening has risen to 131. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the latest quake at 5.9, with a depth of 10 km (6 miles).
"We will evacuate people off of the three Gili islands".
National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said there were no fatalities among tourists on the three islands Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air.
Muhammad Faozal, the head of West Nusa Tenggara's tourism agency, said there were about 1,200 mostly foreign tourists on the Gilis.
Singapore's Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam, who was in Lombok for a security conference when the quake struck, described on Facebook how his hotel room on the 10th floor shook violently.
Like Bali, Lombok is known for pristine beaches and mountains.
"Everyone's a bit shaken but all well".
"We tried to go to the airport but there was no taxi, no transport, no plan for evacuation", French tourist Jina told Metro TV.
